Since our childhood we are fed with lot of stories to train us to act as per the expectation of the society. But these stories need a makeover as per the changing values of the society.

As the society progresses or digresses these stories should also dynamically be changed. One of the most famous tales is that of the ant and the grasshopper. I shall briefly narrate the original version first than present the new version that I feel portrays the current situation of the society.

MODERN VERSION : 21st century Ant and Grasshopper story from a male perspective

Mr. Ant works hard for building his house, laying up supplies for the winter. He goes to job, works hard for living. He tries to fulfill all the social responsibilities. He works in risky & dangerous places as well just to earn few dollars more for family.

Ms. Grasshopper his neighbor is a party animal. She knows Mr. Ant is a fool so laughs at him, while she dances and plays the summer away.

She is socially very active and participates in various programs for social uplifting of grasshoppers. She also participates in campaign where she walks almost naked, demanding respect and teaching values. She spends her earnings in enjoying vacation, shopping, partying, spa etc. She spends most of time enjoying and relaxing.

She along with likeminded grasshoppers mingle and date the richest ants they find. She claims that she is against genderism & breedism hence dates ants. She says love knows no boundary of Caste, Colour or Breed. Most of her expenses including shopping are borne by her ant friends who slog at work.

Before the summer ends Ms Grasshopper asks one of the ants to allow her to stay in his home and take their relation to next level by making her his live-in partner. Mr. Ant agrees and Ms. Grasshopper shifts to his home. Meanwhile Ms. Grasshopper never takes up any permanent job but increases her lavish expenses. Mr. Ant tries to cope up the demand for gifts and money by working overtime and even utilizing his savings. But he fails to meet the ever increasing demands. One day Mr. Ant is able to bear no more and tells Ms. Grasshopper to earn for her expenses. This makes Ms Grasshopper so angry,  she leaves home. Though winter had started, the shivering grasshopper sheds almost all clothes. This gets her lot of attention. She lobbies with the government to provide for her expenses equal to that of Mr. Ant. She also calls various corporate houses to pledge increasing her payments to eliminate the breed pay gap in earnings. She calls a press conference and demands to know why Mr. Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while she is cold and starving. She strongly shames those who ask her to perform for the pay, even the guest in her conference are scared of her.

GBS, LBC, QBS, ONN, and CBA show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that Mr. Ant has so much of wealth, while this poor Ms. Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so QN condemns the behavior and creates a body QN-hopper to look after the wellbeing of all the grasshopper

Singpun the crab appears on Nuprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’

Talkshame stages a demonstration in front of the Mr. Ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, We Shall Overcome.

Then religious groups kneel down to pray for Ms. Grasshopper’s sake.

President Bushman condemns Mr. Ant and blames President Bull, President Leegun for grasshopper’s plight.

Top politicians exclaim in an interview with Mr. Frownup on crimes now, that Mr. Ant has gotten rich off the back of Ms. Grasshopper’s unpaid work. She should be reimbursed for all the unpaid work that made possible for the ant to make money, and they call for an immediate laws on the ant to make him pay his fair share. The court orders the Ant to pay Grasshopper for all the unpaid work it did. The ant failed to realize what unpaid work the grasshopper did while she was busy dancing and partying.

The government creates multiple laws some being. Divorce laws for the unmarried couple and VAGA (Violence Against Grasshopper Act) for all the couples. Plus strict Alimony laws etc.

QN drafts the Economic Equity and Anti-Ant Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. QN also proposed creating safe places Grasshopper.

Mr. Ant is fined for failing to provide for his live-in partner. Corporate are forced to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper as a shelter ans safe space for grasshoppers.

Ms. Grasshopper and her party friends finish up the last bits of Ant’s savings in enjoying their lavish lifestyle. The Ant’s old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it.

After some decades the ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper has spent all the money received from the ant. She is now spending time, in hospital trying to get rid of drug habit and the house, now sold, is taken over by a gang of cockroaches who sell drugs.

Nation begins to collapse but QN being run by grasshopper is busy convincing other nations that the laws created by them will create a better world. They force all the nations to implement the rules created by them. The governments of those nation look at it as opportunity to stay in power by getting grasshopper votes. So they blindly implement the proposed law. The big companies are supporting the idea so that more grasshopper come to work and decrease the labour cost by increase in supply of employees. So one by one the nations fall bringing down the rest of the free world with them.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful of fake claims of suppression.
