Crime victim compensation are government programs to reimburse victims of crimes. Victims can be compensated for a range of things, such as: personal injury; losses from theft or damage to property; losses from fraud; being off work; medical expenses; travel expenses; pain and suffering etc. Considering the fact that a victim should be compensated without prejudice one would expect uniformity in compensation. But that is not the case with compensation schemes influenced by feminists in India. Considering the data of various state government’s compensation schemes and following are my findings.
I had expected highest compensation to be for the death of a person, but to my surprise, I found that the highest compensation across the various states in India was for Rape! At one million the compensation for rape was twice that of highest compensation for death paid in any Indian state. It should be kept in mind that in India Rape is considered a crime only if it happens to a woman. Men raped by women are not considered as victims as per Indian law. So compensation for male victims of rape is out of the question. I also noted that there is compensation for sodomy, here men can be victims, but that too is given only in the state of Gujarat in India and it is just 1/40th fraction of the highest compensation given to rape victim.
A similar pattern is seen in compensation of victims of Acid attack. In India Acid Attack is looked as a gender crime committed by men on women (Though nearly 50% of Acid attack victims can be men). The highest compensation for victim of acid attack is more that victims of burn, grievous hurt and even disability
One more interesting thing I found was of compensation towards injury to a child is on a much lower scale compared to that of women victims.
