Ria : Hey, did you know that the Jeff’s wife got so much money in Alimony that she is now richer than the Richest Indian.
Chang : I think it’s not right on her part to take away man’s wealth just because he married her.
Tia : In this case I don’t see any difference. One got a chunk of husband’s fortune and the other got that of his father.
Ria : The Son at least has a blood relationship of Son with his father and the father has every right and choice to deny giving him a single penny.
Whereas Jeff didn’t have that blood relationship. It was a marital relationship where both the parties choose the partner and it can be broken by divorce.
Jeff did not have a right or choice to not give money in a divorce. The right and choice to decide to give or not is the difference you missed.
