This Children’s day Fathers are sending Broken pencil to Prime minister.
To highlight the neglect of rights of child to have access to father and vice a versa. There is a proverb it takes a village to raise a child. It means that for all round development of a child it need attention of not just it’s family but also a sound social atmosphere and people who can be looked up to. But sadly in India father & child both are deprived of their rights.
For a child parents are like a pencil that help the child draw his space on the canvass of life. but in absence of a father the child is left with broken pencil.
Studies too have shown that children growing up with single mothers are likely to be depressed and socially incompatible. I got access to one of the father’s letter and I was as below.
To, Honorable Prime Minister, SUBJECT: - WISHES FOR UPCOMING CHILDREN’S DAY & A BROKEN PENCIL OF MY CHILD Dear Sir, Firstly, congratulations for doing many path breaking reforms in the system which were done with great speed and precision. But sadly, most of reforms are being concentrated on just an economical side not overall wellbeing including mental wellbeing. There is a proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”, but sadly in India father & child both are deprived of their rights. I am also one such father deprived of spending my life with my kid and no one comes forward to help me, be it Government, Judiciary, Police or any other organization since everyone has the preset mentality of helping just female and blaming male gender and not taking any neutral views on such critical matters. The laws in India have reduced father to status of ATM for the expenses of the estranged wife and alienated kids. Hence, I am forced to highlight the plight of my children who are forced to write the exams of their life with a Broken Pencil (That symbolizes the lack of presence of a father in their life). They are not able to utilize the full potential & power of a pencil because their pencil is now only half the length. My children are losing out on the advantages & benefits of the last part of their pencil (their father) that is not with them. When my children see the other kids with full pencils they suffer from inferiority complex. It brings negative emotions to their vulnerable mind at very raw age. Children’s life is incomplete without a father. They are missing out half the love they would have gotten otherwise. Researchers and doctors too agree that children who grow up with single mothers have higher chances of depression, drug abuse etc. Such children may not be a positive part of society when they grow up with deficiency of father in life. So, as a symbolic gesture, I am sending you broken pencil of my kid depicting the pain in my life. I request you to take up following issues -

Remove superiority of one parent over the other in present laws, reform the guardianship & Custody laws.

Make provision for safeguarding rights of both the parents along with the child

Eliminate stereotypes that girl child should be raised only by mothers.

Provide joint custody to parents favorable to the welfare of the child.

Bring laws to give stringent punishment to women who disobey orders of visiting rights to fathers.

Sign Hague convention and punish women who kidnap children from father in a foreign nation.

Punishment for women who try to alienate children from fathers.

Speed up family courts for custodial matters. As the current process is so long and tedious that it translates into punishment for life (Though our constitution says justice delayed is justice denied).

Ensure that Court orders permitting fathers to meet with children are obeyed.

Make provision of law itself that wrongdoers are punished irrespective of their gender.
